About the event
Equal Accessibility & Support Everywhere, Inc. (EASE) recently hosted an immersive accessibility event specifically tailored for library staff, aimed at empowering them to create more inclusive and accessible environments for all patrons. This hands-on training provided participants with practical tools and a deeper understanding of how to accommodate the needs of individuals from the Deaf, Hard-of-Hearing, DeafBlind, Blind, and Visually Impaired communities.
Event Highlights:
Interactive Learning Stations: Attendees rotated through stations where they engaged with various assistive technologies and communication tools, such as screen readers, tactile signage, magnification devices, and assistive listening systems. They gained firsthand experience with the resources that can make a library more accessible.
Inclusive Communication Training: The event provided real-time instruction on communicating effectively with patrons who use American Sign Language (ASL), voice-to-text apps, CART services, and other communication methods. Staff members learned how to create welcoming spaces that accommodate diverse communication needs.
